American Express Volunteers at P.S. 28

On April 7th, 8 enthusiastic volunteers from American Express participated in a variety of activities at P.S. 28, a vibrant elementary after-school program located in the South Bronx. With a targeted enrollment of 555 children ranging from grades K-5, the program is designed to strengthen the reading, writing, and math skills of the participants as well as nurture their talents in music, art, dance and sports.

Participated in the children’s literature projects during which the children read out loud to an adult, identified new words and discussed various characters and plot.

Worked with children during their Health & Fitness program designed to encourage wholesome activities and reduce childhood obesity.

Rehearsed the children in preparation for the end-of-the-year closing presentation, a musical based on a play that the children attended in March, which they will perform for their families.

Offered hands-on lessons to students on how to use computers, which were provided by the New York City Mission Society.
