Estate Planning (bequest in one’s will or trust)

Donor Benefits:

  • Receive an estate tax charitable deduction and lessen the tax burden for your estate beneficiaries.
  • This gift costs you nothing in your lifetime, but leaves your legacy for generations to come.
  • Easy gift to set up with your attorney or financial advisor.
  • Giving a significant gift that will help NYC children and families for generations to come.

How to make this gift in your estate planning:

  • Please consult your attorney or financial advisor to include language that specifies that you would like to leave a set amount or percentage of your estate to New York City Mission Society.

Gifts of Life Insurance

Donor Benefits:

  • The annual premium payment may be tax deductible if the gift is structured properly.
  • “Amplify” your legacy gift. By making a modest cash outlay annually for the life insurance policy, one can give a very significant legacy gift to NYCMS at the end of their lives.
  • Giving a significant gift that will help NYC children and families for generations to come

How to make a life insurance gift (two options):

  • You can transfer an existing policy and name New York City Mission Society as the policy’s irrevocable owner and beneficiary. You will receive an income tax deduction for the cash value of the policy and a deduction for any future premiums paid.

OR

  • You can purchase new life insurance policy and name New York City Mission Society as the irrevocable owner and beneficiary.

Gifts of Retirement Benefits

Donor Benefits:

  • No federal income tax is due on the funds that pass to the New York City Mission Society.
  • No federal estate-tax liability on the funds transferred to New York City Mission Society.
  • Your overall estate receives an estate tax charitable deduction, preserving funds for your heirs.
  • Giving a significant gift that will help NYC children and families for generations to come.

How to make a life insurance gift (two options):

  • You name New York City Mission Society as beneficiary for part or all of your retirement-plan benefits through a beneficiary designation form. Then funds are transferred by your plan administrator after your passing.
