2007 Program Highlights

Improving Education
    In NYC over 50% of African American and Latino students drop out of high school. At New York City Mission Society:

        o 100% of high school seniors who participated in the Learning to Work program graduated high school.

        o In our teen pregnancy prevention program:
          - 98% of our participants were promoted to the next grade.
          - 100% of all graduated seniors are now attending college.

        o In our work readiness program, 100% of all graduated seniors went on to college.

Preparing New York City's Workforce
    200,000 New York City youth between the ages of 16-24 are out of school and out of the workforce. At New York City Mission Society:

        o 80% of graduated seniors from our Learning to Work program have gone on to college; 20% have joined the workforce.

        o Over 700 students had summer jobs with employers ranging from the Harlem Podiatry School to Legal Aid Society.

Building Strong Communities
    Through its programs and services Mission Society promotes healthy family relationships, strengthens community ties and provides a safe place to enjoy holidays and community events.

        o 100% of children served through our preventative services initiative have stayed out of New York City's foster care system.

        o Annual community events at our Minisink Townhouse in Central Harlem include a community Thanksgiving dinner and turkey distribution to needy families; Halloween party; health fair and holiday toy drive.
