Our Mission
New York City Mission Society provides programs and services in a warm and loving environment in which children and families from underserved communities achieve personal growth and a greater degree of self-sufficiency.
Our Values
New York City Mission Society holds that:
- Children and youth in impoverished neighborhoods have the same
inherent potential as their counterparts in middle class areas - Families struggling under the ills of poverty have the same ability to create a better life for themselves as those that have more resources
- The experience of poverty creates deficits that require additional
resources for impoverished people to truly gain access to the same opportunities as the middle class
As such, New York City Mission Society’s programs aim to help children, youth, and families achieve their full potential despite the hardship of poverty. All of our programs reflect our three core values:
Dignity: valuing the inherent capacity in each child, youth, and adult we serve
Kindness: creating a warm, loving community in which children, youth, and adults can thrive, and also serve as an antidote to the violence that often characterizes impoverished neighborhoods
Respect: demonstrating respect for our participants, and expecting that participants exhibit respect for themselves, each other, and their community in all of their actions.
