New York City Mission Society is proud to be one of New York City’s oldest nonprofit human services organizations. We have always believed that people living in poverty deserve the same access to opportunity as everyone else. So for nearly 200 years, we have given impoverished New Yorkers the tools to grasp opportunity and make better lives for themselves.

New York City Mission Society remains effective because we adapt to the changing needs of the people we serve. We employ a portfolio of innovative and comprehensive approaches rather than a single model of service delivery. Our long history has taught us about change, so we embrace new ideas and let go of approaches that no longer apply.

Though New York City Mission Society no longer retains the religious affiliations it once did, we embrace the values that have always driven us—that of dignity, kindness, and respect. In this sense, we remain decidedly old-fashioned, and committed to being a source of positive change.

We provide services according to these values, and because we create warm, loving environments in which our program participants can grow, they allow us to be part of their lives. We care about them, so they care about themselves. We invest in them, and they invest in their futures. That is how we reverse the cycle of poverty, one person at a time.

We have been changing lives since 1812. We hope you will join us.

Respectfully,
Stephanie Palmer
Executive Director
